Dear Matadero Madrid:
We have visited Madrid many times, and we always drove past you without really trying to get to know you. I am so glad we explored more this time around. I cannot believe that for decades, you were a place where animals went to get slaughtered and made into food. I am still not quite clear about the history of why that stopped in 1996, but I am not sure glad that you have become a different kind of institution to the city.
Your buildings are novelty with the history, and unpretentiously artsy. Somehow, you meticulously transitioned your way from slaughterhouse to art gallery museum. Your beautifully architecture sets a perfect background for the exhibitions, and you sit adjacent to an amazing park.
The park is also easily one of my favorite spots in the city.
You have become a place that I would recommend all my friends visit in Madrid, and definitely one of my favorite “regular” spots in the capital.
